Pelvic Utrasound
Pelvic ultrasound is one of the methods used to examine women's health. The procedure can be performed preventively or to detect various pathological processes. This method allows to examine the condition of the uterus and its appendages (ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix). Various types of sensors are used for the ultrasound examination of the small pelvis. This makes it possible to carry out a complex of ultrasound examinations, such as the following
- transabdominal
- transvaginal;
- transrectal.
It is recommended to undergo the procedure at least once a year or according to the doctor's prescription.
Indications for Pelvic Ultrasound
The examination is indicated in the following cases:
- Annual screening.
- Study of the ovulatory reserve for planning future pregnancies and determining ovulation.
- Verification of intrauterine device placement.
- Detection of inflammatory diseases of the reproductive system (endometritis, salpingitis, oophoritis, adnexitis).
- Monitoring the dynamics of various gynecological diseases.
- Search for benign or malignant tumors (ovarian cysts, uterine leiomyoma, adenomyosis, endometriosis, endometrial cancer and adjacent tissues).
- Diagnosis of violations of the normal menstrual cycle.
- Preparation for in vitro fertilization (IVF).
- Determination of the onset of pregnancy, embryo development period and various anomalies.
- Diagnosis of frozen pregnancy.
- Dopplerometry of uterine vessels.
- Monitoring the state of the fetus in different trimesters of pregnancy.
Also, with the help of ultrasound, the doctor can study the location of the placenta and the amount of amniotic fluid, measure the weight of the fetus and determine with high accuracy the date of birth.
Contraindications to Pelvic Ultrasound
These include various skin diseases, ARVI, or other infectious diseases, as well as the presence of open wounds in the examined area.
The examination cannot be performed in case of bleeding from the urogenital system. There are no other contraindications: ultrasound diagnostics is completely safe for a man, a woman, and a fetus, if present.
Pelvic Ultrasound Preparation
Preparation for pelvic ultrasound includes:
- Avoiding food for two days before the procedure.
- Taking "Espumizan" for 2-3 days. This will protect you from abdominal bloating.
- Complete abstinence from alcohol and smoking.
- Taking an enema during the transrectal examination.
- Drink water during the abdominal examination (about 1 liter before the procedure).
If an ultrasound of the uterus is performed, it is recommended not to eat for 3-4 hours. Also, do not eat foods that activate the production of gases: fruits, vegetables, corn, beans, canned foods, milk and milk products, black rye bread, etc.
What can an ultrasound scan reveal?
This procedure allows you to determine the shape and size of the genitals, the presence of tumors or other neoplasms. Also, such diagnostics is used to determine the presence of pregnancy, fetal research and detection of possible pathologies. Ultrasound of the small pelvis in Kiev is recommended every year to detect hidden diseases in the early stages of their development. This allows you to significantly reduce the risks and get rid of diseases with minimal damage to the body.
