Pneumococcus vaccination (Prevenar 13)

Pneumococcus vaccination
Vaccination against pneumococcal infection is the only effective way to prevent diseases caused by pneumococcal bacteria.
Vaccination against pneumococcal disease is mandatory in many countries of the world for children from 2 months. In Ukraine, pneumococcal vaccination was not included in the national vaccination schedule approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Accordingly, protection against pneumococcal infection in Ukraine is available only to those people who were vaccinated independently in private clinics.
Adults who have not been vaccinated yet, should be vaccinated once with the next revaccination after the age of 65.
How dangerous is a pneumococcal infection:
- Pneumococcus is a frequent cause of pneumonia, otitis, meningitis and other purulent inflammatory lesions
- Pneumococcus is resistant to antibiotics. 50% of modern antibiotics do not destroy pneumococcus, and therefore do not treat inflammation.
Therefore, vaccination against pneumococcal infection is an important protection against severe lesions.
For vaccination against pneumococcal infection, the Prevenar 13 vaccine (Pfizer, Belgium) is used in the Universum Clinic.
Prevenar 13 contains protection against 13 types of pneumococci. The vaccine is injected once into the deltoid muscle of the forearm.
The Prevenar 13 vaccine is not a live vaccine, so it can be combined with any other vaccines.
