Tonsillitis, sore throat

Tonsillitis, sore throat
Acute tonsillitis (tonsillitis) is an infectious inflammation of the tonsils, pharynx and larynx tissue, caused by streptococci, staphylococci and other micro-organisms.
As acute tonsillitis affects the tonsils, which are responsible for the immune system, it is extremely dangerous for the body. If the body is weakened and the person has other chronic illnesses, a sore throat can have very serious negative consequences.
Symptoms of acute tonsillitis (sore throat)
- pain and redness in the throat, difficulty swallowing;
- purulent plaque on the tonsils;
- fever, which does not go down well;
- swollen lymph nodes;
- headache;
- general feeling of being unwell.
Diagnosing tonsillitis
An experienced otolaryngologist will be able to diagnose tonsillitis by examining the patient. But in some cases, a general blood test is also needed, as well as a culture from the throat.
Treatment of tonsillitis
The sooner a patient consults a doctor, the quicker and easier the treatment will be. Bed rest, a gentle diet and plenty of fluids may be recommended. If the infection is bacterial, antibiotics, topical antiseptics and antipyretic drugs are necessary for treatment. The doctor makes all the prescriptions and monitors the progress of the treatment. It is important for the patient to adhere to all recommendations until complete recovery.
